President Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted the Managing Director for Operations at the World Bank, Anna Bjerde, the presidential press service said.

The parties discussed the ways to further advance cooperation between Uzbekistan and the World Bank, primarily in matters of supporting the strategy of economic reforms in the country.

Today, Uzbekistan is one of the bank’s largest partners, with the project portfolio at over $12 billion dollars. The World Bank provides financial, advisory and technical support for the implementation of reforms for the sustainable development of priority sectors of the economy and the social sector.

With the assistance of the bank, a new procedure was adopted to expedite the preparation and improve the quality of projects with the participation of international financial institutions.

The following areas have been reportedly identified as priorities for further partnership: the fight against poverty, primarily through the creation of jobs for women and youth, including in the tourism industry, support for the private sector and public-private partnership development programs, transformation and privatization of state enterprises.

The parties focused on joint plans in decarbonization, urbanization and modernization of infrastructure, increasing energy efficiency, improving the investment climate and assisting the country in joining the WTO and exchanged views on the promotion of major regional projects.
