2,983 micro hydroelectric power plants with 164 MW total capacity are planned to be erected in Uzbekistan, which will generate 500 million kWh of power annually in 2025-26. This is provided for by the of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s March 28 Additional measures to develop the network of micro hydroelectric power plants in Uzbekistan Decree.

According to the targets approved by the Decree, the commissioning of new micro hydroelectric power plants will provide power to another 280 thousand people. This should also help reduce the annual consumption of natural gas by 151 million cubic meters and, due to this, 251 thousand tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Micro hydroelectric power plants will be set up including in the irrigation systems of almost 3,000 land areas.

The largest number of micro hydroelectric power plants will be built in Andijan (763), Surkhandarya (300) and Kashkadarya (269) provinces. It is planned to build 12 micro hydroelectric power plants in Tashkent.
