Global changes in the world pose new challenges for national parliaments and the Inter-Parliamentary Union that unites them, stated the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his address to the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Tashkent today.

“Me as well I was a member of parliament for 15 years,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at the beginning of his speech. “I know and understand well how responsible your noble mission is, designed to make the world safer and societies more prosperous.”

“Parliaments are a powerful force capable of raising the concerns and problems of people from the lowest level of the system and, if necessary, to the regional and international level, finding effective solutions.”

“In the context of the intensification of armed conflicts, environmental and man-made disasters, economic crises, trade wars, threats of terrorism and extremism in the world, parliaments must “intensify their participation and influence in preserving peace, ensuring social development and justice”.

“Identifying the true causes of inequality among people and the fight against its consequences as one of the main tasks. Over the past 30 years, the volume of global gross domestic product has increased by 4.5 times, but the incomes of the poor have remained virtually unchanged. If this trend continues, by 2030, 575 million people in the world will live in poverty, and 84 million children will be deprived of the opportunity to receive an education.”

“This situation causes enormous damage to the economy and society, weakens the functioning of socio-economic institutions and, ultimately, limits people's opportunities”.

“Conflicts in different regions of the planet are a serious threat to global and regional peace and security.” “Uzbekistan is a strong supporter of resolving any conflicts and contradictions exclusively through diplomacy and peace negotiations”.

“The negotiation process that has begun on the situation around Ukraine will definitely yield a positive result.”

“Solutions to the most pressing problems should be found on the basis of generally recognized norms of international law, the Charter and resolutions of the United Nations."

"The only fair solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is the "Two state solution".

"It is crucial to prevent the isolation of Afghanistan this country in the international arena, to establish a constructive dialogue with the current government, to consider it an integral part of the Central Asian region, opening up new opportunities. In this matter, we count on the support of parliaments."

“Uzbekistan sees the UN as the only universal and unparalleled global platform" and supports the efforts of Secretary-General Antonio Guterres "to deeply reform this international organization and increase its potential".

“Climate change has become an acute problem of our time and a serious obstacle to the development of all countries”.

"Its devastating consequences primarily affect developing countries. Now more than ever, it is important to fully implement our commitments under the Paris Agreement and achieve carbon neutrality".

"We will definitely achieve significant success in the field of climate policy if supporting advanced initiatives, stimulating the transition to renewable energy sources and "green" technologies become important tasks of the parliament".

"Strongly securing women's rights is one of the main conditions for the development of society," the president further noted. "If equal participation of women and men in all sectors of the economy is ensured, the volume of global gross domestic product can increase by 26%".

“I welcome the increase in the share of women in parliaments around the world from 11.3% in 1995 to 27.2% and expressed hope for support for the UN General Assembly resolution "On the expansion of socio-economic, political-legal and cultural-humanitarian activities of women in Asia," promoted by Uzbekistan.

“Expanding the rights and opportunities for the full participation of young people in all areas of society" an extremely pressing issue.”

"Today, more than ever, it is important to ensure the rights of every person to social protection, the provision of quality services based on international standards and norms."

“Uzbekistan has been declared a social state, in which the priority of the national policies is to ensure comprehensive protection of the public”.

“Strengthening systemic cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, which is widely penetrating all areas, is a very important issue”.

“Should a standard law on the ethics of using artificial intelligence be developed, then this innovative legal framework will become a kind of model for all countries to effectively regulate the rapidly developing industry in the world,” he noted.

“No country or society in the world can develop solely by adopting numerous laws or decisions. I call on the world’s parliaments to unite, strengthening the spirit of lawmaking and mobilizing all our knowledge and experience to achieve our common, united goals,” the President of Uzbekistan concluded.
