Ahmed Shaheed, special rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief of the UN Human Rights Council, will pay a visit to Uzbekistan on October 2-12, UzA reported.
The delegation led by Ahmed Shahid will reportedly get acquainted with the measures being undertaken in Uzbekistan in the sphere of ensuring freedom of religion or belief, positive experience of the country in this area and will present recommendations, the message says.
This visit being his first country visit to Central Asia, Ahmed Shaheed is scheduled to meet with representatives of government bodies and civil society institutions and the diplomatic corps.
In particular, he will hold meetings with the Ombudsman, in the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis, the ministries of foreign affairs, interior, justice, public education, higher and secondary special education, the Constitutional and Supreme Courts, the Prosecutor General's Office, the Committee for Religious Affairs, the Women's Committee and the Board of Muslims.
The program of the visit also includes meetings with representatives of national cultural centers and religious confessions, makhallas (self-government bodies) and people's reception rooms of the President.

The Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief is an independent expert appointed by the UN Human Rights Council. The mandate holder has been invited to identify existing and emerging obstacles to the enjoyment of the right to freedom of religion or belief and present recommendations on ways and means to overcome such obstacles.
