The Andijan International Airport received the first technical flight of Uzbekistan Airways from Tashkent on March 15. This marked the completion of the first phase of the full reconstruction and modernization of the airport, which began on April 1, 2023. The airport will soon begin receiving regular flights.
According to Uzbekistan Airports, as part of the first phase, the construction of a significant part of the airport complex has been completed, including a new runway (RWY) of category 4E, 3,300 m long and 60 m wide, one taxiway (TWY) and an apron with three aircraft parking spaces.
The new elements of the airport pavement (runway, TWY and apron) are made of cement concrete. The classification number determining the bearing capacity of the pavement is PCN - 64R / B / W / T. This will allow the airport to receive wide-body aircraft such as Boeing 787, 747, Airbus A330 and lower class aircraft without restrictions.
Reportedly, concrete runways are the optimal solution in hot climates - they are stronger and more durable. To date, concrete strips have been built at the airports of Navoi and Termez.
The second taxiway and apron project for seven parking lots is currently underway, and construction and installation work is underway to install radar, meteorological and lighting equipment CAT-II ICAO. This will allow up to 10 aircraft to be serviced on the apron at the same time and will ensure the reception of aircraft at night and in adverse weather conditions. In turn, this will make it possible to increase the number of flights and passenger traffic to the city of Andijan and the Fergana Valley.
