President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev yesterday hosted the Russian Agriculture Minister Aleksandr Tkachev, who arrived in Tashkent on the instruction of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, UzA said.
The counterparts reportedly discussed the ways to expand cooperation between the two countries in the agro-industrial complex (AIC).
The three-day working visit of Minister Tkachev resulted in the signing of a number of accords in the sphere of the agro-industrial complex.
In particular, the sides signed accords on supply of sugar from Russia to Uzbekistan, setting up of an Uzbek-Russian-Kyrgyz enterprise for cultivation of seed potatoes in Uzbekistan and expansion of cooperation in the joint selection of cereals, legumes and oilseeds, including long-term integrated development of crop production.
In seven months of 2017, agricultural exports from Uzbekistan to Russia increased by 27% to reach $ 75 million, while imports amounted to US$131 million.
The two countries are implementing a number of joint projects, among them establishment of a "green corridor" for supplies of agricultural products and measures to improve phytosanitary supervision.
