Today, the President of Uzbekistan and the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a meeting dedicated to the country's defense capability. In the meeting were present the members of the Security Council, heads of military departments, commanders of military districts, as well as representatives of provincial authorities via video conference call.
During the meeting, the measures taken to strengthen the army, their effectiveness and existing shortcomings were reviewed. The President noted that the armed forces are equipped with modern weapons and equipment, which increases the level of training of military personnel. New combat units aimed at preventing internal and external threats have been formed in the army structure, and the organizational structure of the troops has been optimized.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of further modernization of the armed forces and the development of the defense industry. To date, Uzbekistan has built cooperation with more than 20 countries and has taken part in over 400 joint military exercises. Whilst, the personnel training system has been significantly improved: the infrastructure of higher military schools has been modernized, curricula have been updated, and social support for military personnel and their families has been improved. In particular, about 30 thousand military families have been provided with housing, and more than 2,000 children of military personnel have received benefits for admission to universities.
Discussing priority goals for the coming years, Shavkat Mirziyoyev underscored that modern challenges and threats must be taken into account when developing the army. Taking into account the changes in the nature of armed conflicts, he instructed to create specialized units to combat drones, robotic equipment, and to strengthen air defense and cybersecurity systems.
Additionally, he set the goal was to improve combat training, create a unified automated troop control system based on artificial intelligence technologies, and introduce dual training in military education. Key areas for the development of the army were also identified, including the reform of the "Corps of Chief Sergeants", support for military personnel, and educating young people in the spirit of patriotism through military sports.
Earlier it was reported that at the IDEX 2025 international defense technology exhibition in Abu Dhabi, Uzbekistan presented military equipment - several types of drones, armored vehicles, a howitzer as well as dual-use products.
