Director of UzAtom Agency, Azim Akhmedkhadjaev in an interview to Uzbekistan 24 said that Uzbekistan was eyeing for the creation of an international consortium to support and develop nuclear energy projects in Uzbekistan, in particular for the small-scale nuclear plant project in Jizzakh province.

The president specifically noted that this project should be of an international nature with the involvement of various international bodies, he said.

In addition to Russian technologies, non-nuclear technologies from China, as well as software and hardware systems from Europe, would be used in the project, he added.

We will utilize non-standard approaches in this project, such as Hungarian or Chinese-manufactured dry cooling towers. This is being done to reduce water consumption at the plant, he said.

Uzatom has also developed a joint program with the IAEA aimed at training personnel and ensuring safety during the implementation of nuclear projects in Uzbekistan. while, other options for implementing similar projects in the republic will be considered.

Yesterday, the president Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a government meeting on nuclear energy, where creating generation capacities in the long term, in particular, small modular reactor projects were touched upon.
