President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim attended Uzbek-Malaysian Business Forum in Kuala Lumpur, the presidential press service said Wednesday.

The event was attended by over 200 business leaders of companies, investment and banking and financial institutions of the two countries.

Malaysian business was represented by Petronas, MMC Corporation, DRB-Hicom, Gemilang Coachwork, Proton, Gentari, Five Petroleum, YTL Corporation, Sunview Group, KPJ Healthcare, MK Tron, Mimos, Sparco Engineering, Tradewinds Group, Kapital DX, Gamuda, Westports, Khazanah, EXIM Bank of Malaysia and many others.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted the following priority areas for Uzbek-Malaysian cooperation:

  • Expansion of long-term cooperation in the field of electronics and the semiconductor industry. Opportunities for projects in the field of AI, digital technologies and data centers.
  • Petrochemical and chemical industries. strategic projects for production of polymers, green hydrogen and ammonia.
  • Construction industry.
  • Food security. Smart agriculture technologies, organic products and Halal standards.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev also invited Malaysian companies and banks to buy state-owned telecommunications, energy, banking and financial and other assets of Uzbekistan.

In addition, he noted the potential for cooperation in such areas as geology, education, transport and pilgrimage tourism.

He welcomed the great interest of Malaysian businesses in implementing joint investment projects, their willingness to share technologies and knowledge.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev also announced the creation of a special economic zone in the Tashkent province under the management of a Malaysian company.

In conclusion, the head of state proposed holding the next joint business forum this fall in Uzbekistan.
