The leaders of Uzbekistan and Malaysia have agreed to declare 2025-2026 Innovative Development of the Uzbek-Malaysian Partnership Ties. This was announced during the talks between the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim today in Kuala Lumpur.

As reported by the presidential press service, petrochemicals and chemistry, electronics and the semiconductor industry, innovative industry, smart agriculture, green energy, pilgrimage tourism and others have been outlined as priority areas of the new model of bilateral economic cooperation.

The talks, which first took place between the two leaders and then between the delegations, touched upon the ways to expand the bilateral ties in various areas.

The leaders decided to set up Strategic Dialogue of Foreign Ministers platform with an aim to coordinate the development of cooperation and the implementation of agreements at the highest level.

In order to increase the twa-way trade, they reached an agreement on drafting a Preferential Trade Treaty, holding mutual industrial exhibitions, and adopting an Industrial Cooperation Program.

A special economic zone is being set up in Tashkent province under the management of a leading Malaysian company to support cooperation projects.

The Malaysian government underscored that it actively supports Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Anwar Ibrahim also discussed current issues of regional cooperation. They underscored the importance of joining efforts in the fight against terrorism, radicalism and Islamophobia.

The official visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Malaysia featured a meeting of think tanks of the two countries, presentations of the tourism potential and cultural heritage of Uzbekistan, a forum of rectors of leading universities and other events.

The first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission took place in May last year during the official visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia to Uzbekistan, the Business Council was set up, and a number of large business forums were organized.
