President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a government meeting Monday, where he in particular, reviewed a report on major transport infrastructure projects, including the alternative Tashkent to Andijan highway project.
The 314-km highway project was developed with the support of the World Bank. The new highway will not only speed up travel, but will also increase the Uzbekistan’s gross domestic product by 2.6%, as well as reduce the number of road accidents by 40%.
An international call for bids was recently announced for the project, which attracted interest from major foreign companies.
The meeting also discussed other promising alternative highways. Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed the Ministry of Transport to develop additional projects on busy highways, improving the quality of roads, and introducing various paid services.
