The Foreign Ministry welcomed the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the exchange of hostages in the statement on Sunday. We see these agreements as a very important positive step towards deescalating the tensions and ensuring long-awaited peace in the region, the spokesman to the Foreign Ministry Akhror Burkhanov said.
He also stressed that Tashkent highly valued the efforts of Qatar, the United States and Egypt, which contributed to the agreement, and called on all parties to strictly comply with its terms.
Uzbekistan remains committed to supporting international efforts aimed at ensuring stability and security in the Middle East, Burkhanov added.
Earlier, Israel and Hamas, with the mediation of Qatar, Egypt and the United States, agreed on a 42-day truce starting on January 19, and also expressed their intention to end the armed conflict, which has claimed the lives of 46,000 Palestinians and about 1,500 Israelis in 15 months.
