The Ambassador of Romania to Uzbekistan Daniel Cristian Ciobanu met with the students of Webster University and Tashkent State Law University. During the meeting, the Ambassador told the students about the Romanian-Uzbek ties and prospects for their development. Bearing in mind that on January 24, Romania celebrated the 166th anniversary of the unification of the Romanian principalities of Moldova and Wallachia, the Ambassador Ciobanu spoke in detail about the special significance of this historical event.
He emphasized the positive dynamics of Romanian-Uzbek relations in recent years. He spoke about a number of important successfully held events, including two rounds of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Romania and Uzbekistan in Bucharest (4 November 2024) and Samarkand (18 November 2022), the meeting of the Romanian-Uzbek Joint Commission on Road Transport (Bucharest, 27-28 March 2024), the meeting between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Romania and Uzbekistan (23 October 2023). Significant were also the visits to Uzbekistan of the State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance of Romania (22-28 September 2024), the Chairman of the Agency for Monitoring and Evaluation of Activities of State-owned Enterprises of Romania (4-6 June 2024), the State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism of Romania (16-20 October 2023), the Chairman of the Competition Council of Romania (7-9 July 2023 and 12-13 October 2022).
Significant contribution to the development of bilateral ties was made by visits to Romania by delegations of the Social Protection Agency under the President of Uzbekistan (January 28 - February 3, 2024), the Prosecutor General's Office and the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies of Uzbekistan (April 22-26, 2024), and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan (April 16, 2024). Daniel Cristian Ciobanu noted the importance of a creative approach in organizing public diplomacy events and mentioned his ascent to the Big Chimgan peak (3309 m) in 2021, to the Hazret Sultan peak (4083 m) in 2022 and to the Pulatkhan plateau (2823 m) in 2023 in honor of the Independence Day of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as a 60-minute hot air balloon flight (Samsarak-Parkent route) at an altitude of 900 meters to celebrate 161 years of Romanian diplomacy in Uzbekistan.
The Ambassador said that he looks to the future with great optimism. The ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan open up new perspectives for expanding the dialogue and ties between Romania and the Republic of Uzbekistan in all areas of mutual interest. Romania will also continue to support the strengthening of cooperation between the European Union and Uzbekistan.
