Kazakhstan has temporarily restricted traffic through one checkpoint on the border with Uzbekistan as of February 1, the spokesman to the Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, Khusan Tangriev said.

Traffic through Tazhen checkpoint (Kazakhstan) - Daut-ata (Uzbekistan) for individuals, cars, buses and trucks with a permitted gross weight of no more than 3.5 tons will be suspended for three months. The ban will not apply to trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons.

These restrictions are being adopted by Kazakhstan in order to ensure the safety of individuals and vehicles in connection with repair and equipment work at checkpoints, the statement said.

The Customs Committee asked individuals, drivers of cars, buses and trucks with a permitted total weight of no more than 3.5 tons to use the Yallama, Zangiota (Navoi), Ok Oltin and Malik checkpoints.

In addition, for individuals, the movement of passenger trains will be through the Karakalpakstan railway checkpoint.
