 President Shavkat Mirziyoyev cordially congratulated the president-elect of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko over the telephone on his landslide victory in the elections on Sunday, the Uzbek president’s press service said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev reportedly underscored the high voter turnout and that the vote results once again confirmed the great trust of the Belarusian people in the incumbent president of the country, broad support his political course and socio-economic reforms.

During the conversation, the two leaders discussed the ways to advance the Uzbek-Belarusian ties in the context of implementing the agreements reached during Alexander Lukashenko's visit to Uzbekistan on February 7-9 last year.

The volume of trade between the countries in 2024 surpassed $700 million. The leaders pointed to the importance of accelerating industrial cooperation projects in various sectors of the economy, continuing close business and contacts between the provinces, and intensive cultural and humanitarian exchange.

Alexander Lukashenko won 86.82% of the vote in the presidential election, his seventh since 1994.
