Korean tourist Park Jun-hee posted a video on his trip to Samarkand on his YouTube channel called Deno Trip. The tourist met two police officers while looking for a ticket to enter a historical site.
One of the officers asked for 5,000 soums (from 3:44). The tourist asked again if it was 50,000 to clarify the amount or 5,000 soums. “Put the money in the green broken basket,” one of the officers said, pointing to several green garbage bins near a wall. The video footage was posted on September 14, 2024.
The tourist put the cash in the indicated place, then said in Korean, “They took a bribe.”
The chief of the press service of the Samarkand province police department said that one of the officers was sacked.
