Tashkent city police department launched anti-drug campaign month on January 15. Named "Safe and Healthy Capital", it is aimed at countering illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic and potent substances.
The department said that the level of drug-related crimes remains high. Their particular danger is that prohibited substances are distributed, including among young people, most of whom do not realize what their use can lead to.
The situation is aggravated by the emergence of new types of drugs and potent substances, as well as new ways of promoting and distributing them. New technologies allow “sellers” and “buyers” to carry out payment transactions without direct contact.
3,447 drug-related criminal cases were opened in Tashkent in 2024. The majority of them — 2,413, or 70%, were committed via the Internet.
As a result of police measures during the year, 238 kg 815 g of drugs (synthetic and plant origin), psychotropic and potent substances and drugs were seized.
7162 cases of "narcograffiti" (advertisements of online drug stores) were detected, with over 13 thousand groups and channels in social networks engaged in the sale and promotion of drugs closed.
During the month, police will organize a 24-hour service of special units, with night raids against knives and other cold weapons items, distribution of drugs ("caches"), and narcograffiti.
Law enforcement officers also intend to hold meetings and discussions in all 468 schools and 90 universities, as well as 585 mahallas in the capital.
