74 carbon monoxide incidents occurred in households in Uzbekistan (86 in 2023) in less than 11 months This was reported at a briefing at the Information and Mass Communications Agency on Wednesday by the chief of the department of Khududgaztaminot company, Abdusattor Kayumov.

82 people died (88 in 2023), and another 80 (119) were injured in these incidents. Most of the cases occurred in the Fergana, Khorezm and Jizzakh regions.

In some cases, entire families died from carbon monoxide due to faulty chimneys, the company official underscored.

"Accidents occur because individuals are not fully aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide, do not believe warnings, use non-standard, homemade, faulty equipment, use chimneys and ventilation systems installed incorrectly," said Abdusattor Kayumov.

He recommended that consumers use equipment that automatically shuts off the gas supply, as well as gas and carbon monoxide sensors (alarms).
