2,423 individuals were held accountable in Uzbekistan for libel charge, stipulated in Article 40 of the Code of Administrative Liability in the first 10 months of 2024, Aziz Obidov, the press secretary of the Supreme Court said.

Also, 27,928 people were held administratively accountable for insulting charge, stipulated in Article 41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, with all of them fined, he added.

Also, 572 people were convicted of the offense of libel and insult, stipulated in the Criminal Code.

In particular, 121 people were convicted under libel, 11 of whom were fined, 14 were sentenced to correctional labor, and 92 were sentenced to house arrest. 4 people were sentenced to suspended sentences.

451 people were convicted under Insult charge, 92 of whom were fined, 242 were sentenced to correctional labor, 4 to compulsory community service, and 110 to house arrest. 3 people were sentenced to suspended sentences.

For reference: Both the Code of Administrative Liability and the Criminal Code consider libel and insult as offenses and stipulate punishments. If these offenses are committed after the imposition of an administrative penalty, or if they are accused of committing a particularly serious crime, or if they are committed on the Internet, or if the victim is performing official duties, then in such cases they will entail criminal liability.
