The Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov announced the resignation of his government to the newly elected Parliament. The government will continue to function until the formation of a new Cabinet of Ministers to ensure transition, said the PM’s spokesman, Bekzod Khidoyatov.
This is a standard procedure aimed at restarting the executive branch after the renewal of the legislative body, he added.
Within a month after the formation of the new parliament, the president of Uzbekistan, after consultations with all political parties, submits a candidacy for prime minister for approval by the Legislative Chamber.
The candidate will present an action program for the Cabinet of Ministers for the near and long term. His candidacy is deemed approved if more than half of the votes of the total number of deputies of the Legislative Chamber are cast for it.
After the approval of the Prime Minister, the formation of the new government shall begin.
Members of the Cabinet of Ministers (Deputy Prime Ministers and Ministers) shall be appointed to office by the President after their candidacies are approved by the lower house of parliament. To do this, they need to receive more than half of the votes of the deputies.
Not always after the elections there is a complete replacement of all ministers. Often, many ministers remain in their positions, especially if their work was assessed positively and they correspond to the political course of the new government.
However, some ministers can be replaced depending on the political priorities and challenges facing the new parliament and government.
After the last elections in 2020, the MPs approved the candidacies of all 35 presented ministers and deputy prime ministers.
