The Tashkent mayor Shavkat Umurzakov signed a decision Tuesday to contribute an additional 6 billion soums for erecting and repair work to prevent flooding during precipitation.

The cash will be provided to Single Customer Service engineering company of the mayor’s office from the excess part of the local budget for Q3 of 2024.

Earlier, 20.4 billion soums were allocated for the same purposes from additional sources of income of the 2024local budget of the Tashkent city.

A day earlier, on October 21, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev again voiced dissatisfaction with the drainage system of Tashkent. He noted the need to create a system for accumulating water in reservoirs for its use in watering trees.

In the spring of 2019, the Tashkent mayor’s office, citing expert calculations, reported that 500 billion soums (59.2 million dollars at the Central Bank exchange rate at that time) were needed for a major overhaul of the city's irrigation and drainage system. It is unknown whether this estimate has changed by now.
