Uzbekistan intends to purchase two trains from the Swiss manufacturer of railway rolling stock, Stadler Rail, announced the Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov at the Senate September 30 session.

According to him, the new trains will be tested on the railways of Uzbekistan, and then a decision will be made on the possible purchase of a large batch of these trains.

He discussed cooperation with Stadler Rail on September 13 during a meeting with the company's director for CIS, Alexander Luft.

The discussion then included the purchase of electric trains, training of Uzbek specialists in servicing the trains, as well as the possible localization of the purchased products in Uzbekistan.

Following the talks, the parties agreed to study in detail the potential capabilities of the company in accordance with the needs of the passenger railway network of Uzbekistan and the company's pricing policy for each segment of Stadler CIS production and servicing.

In 2019, Stadler discussed with Uzbekistan Railways the production of passenger cars in Uzbekistan, as well as their further export to Central Asian countries.

The company also made bids in the Uzbekistan Railways tender for the purchase of 34 electric trains.

Uzbekistan also sought the purchasing of 6 high-speed trains from South Korea's Hyundai Rotem and plans to purchase 30 electric trains from the Czech Skoda. For this, loans of 535 million euros will be attracted under state guarantees.
