Tashkent to Samarkand and Samarkand to Bukhara high-speed railway will be erected in Uzbekistan, the president Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced today 25 at the annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in Samarkand.
According to estimates, the demand for improved energy, water, transport, IT and other infrastructure in the country stands 10% of GDP.
In this context, Shavkat Mirziyoyev welcomed that today's conference was entitled: "Creating Sustainable Infrastructure for All".
He said that Uzbekistan had adopted a $30 billion worth of large-scale program of public-private partnership projects until 2030.
These include projects to build Tashkent to Samarkand and Tashkent to Andijan toll roads, as well as the Tashkent-Samarkand, Samarkand-Navoi-Bukhara railway for high-speed trains on the routes, the modernization of 6 international airports, and others.
The president underscored that Uzbekistan highly valued the contribution of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to achieving sustainable development goals. Today, 15 projects worth $3 billion are being implemented with the bank in the areas of infrastructure, energy, transport, water supply, and sustainable development.
For instance, the $720 million project to improve drinking water supply networks in the Bukhara province, implemented in cooperation with the AIIB, will provide uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water to almost 1.5 million people, the head of state said.
While the launch of the Bukhara to Khiva railway electrification project will help attract an additional 1 million tourists per year to Khiva, he noted.
"It is noteworthy that we recently agreed with the bank to implement a program of projects worth $4 billion in the next three years," Shavkat Mirziyoyev added.
It is also planned to transfer the management of power, water and gas distribution networks to private operators in the next five years. For example, more than 50 renowned foreign companies have expressed interest in the tender for the management of the electrical networks of the Samarkand province, the president said.
In Uzbekistan, houses hosting over 100 thousand apartments are built annually, projects are being implemented to build "New Uzbekistan" real estate districts in Tashkent, Samarkand, Namangan and Andijan, as well as provincial centers.
