Uzbekistan plans to chair the Non-Aligned Movement in 2027-2029, the Foreign Minister Saidov said during his remarks at the movement's ministerial meeting in New York on Monday.
The Non-Aligned Movement is an international organization founded in 1961 and today uniting 120 countries on the principles of non-alignment to military blocs. Uzbekistan joined the movement in September 1992. Since 2019, Azerbaijan has chaired the movement, and this year the chairmanship has passed to Uganda (until 2026).
“Today we are faced with a situation marked by complex global processes and dynamic changes. “We are honored to announce a historic milestone — Uzbekistan’s plans to host the 20th summit and lead the movement for 2027-2029, focusing on key priorities such as energy security, sustainable development, and strengthening global trading systems,” the Uzbek Foreign Minister said.
“We strive to strengthen peace, address climate change, and empower the next generation through education. Together, we can address the challenges of our time and amplify the voice of the Global South,” he added.
