Gas production at large enterprises in Uzbekistan in July 2024 decreased to 3.79 billion cubic meters, according to the report of the Statistics Agency on industrial production.
This is by 2.9% (114.6 million cubic meters) less than in July 2023 (3.9 billion), and 11% less than in July 2022 (4.26 billion).
For seven months, the volume of production amounted to 26.15 billion cubic meters (BCM), which is 4.8%, or 1.3 BCM, less than in the same period last year.
In May, the Ministry of Energy explained the record decline in production in almost four years by scheduled overhaul at the Kandym Gas Processing Plant, the Zharkuduk Complex Gas Treatment Plant and other process-related reasons. While, the decline in gas production has been going on for several years.
75-80% of power in Uzbekistan is generated through gas-fired units.
Power generation by large energy supply enterprises, most of which operate on gas (excluding solar and wind power plants) in July decreased to 5.96 billion kWh, which is 1.2 billion kWh (-17%) less than in July last year (7.2 billion).
In January-July, production decreased to 42.8 billion kWh, which is 5.4%, or 2.46 billion kWh, less than the seven-month figure for 2023.
Earlier, the Ministry of Energy, commenting on the Statistics Agency's data on the decrease in power generation in May, reported that in fact, the growth in power production was 5.8% due to solar and wind power plants, which are considered "small enterprises" and, according to the law, provide reports once a year. The decrease in supplies was explained by "economical spending" after the tariff increase.
The Ministry of Energy does not publish data on production by stations on a regular basis every month/day.
Monthly oil production amounted to 60.2 thousand tons (-7%, or minus 4,500 tons, compared to July 2023). Over seven months, production amounted to 424.8 thousand tons (-6.8% compared to the same period last year).
In July, 115 thousand tons of motor gasoline were produced, which is 13.7% less than in July 2023 (133.2 thousand). In a seven-month comparison, the growth was only 0.7% - from 784.1 thousand to 789.5 thousand tons.
Last month, diesel fuel production increased from 90.4 to 119.4 thousand tons (+32.1% compared to July last year). However, when compared with January-July 2023 (year-on-year), the figure decreased by 1.7% — from 629.8 thousand to 619 thousand tons.
Monthly coal production increased to a record 844.7 thousand tons (+236.4 thousand), which is almost 1.4 times more than the volume in July last year. In January-July, production increased by 12.4% — to 3.48 million tons.
In 2023, Uzbekistan imported more gas than it exported. The difference in supplies exceeded $165 million.
As reported earlier, Uzbekistan and Russia were negotiating both a significant increase in gas and power supplies.
