The Tax Committee reported on the progress of efforts aimed at legalizing the taxi market, which until recently was in the shadows.

If 6 taxi hail ride services were integrated in April with the tax authorities' system, today their number has reached 142.

The size of legal taxi market has reached 3 trillion soums. 24.7% (740.8 billion soums) of trips are paid in non-cash form, 75.3% (2.26 trillion soums) - in cash. The average bill is 18,003 soums.

The age of 142.6 thousand drivers (39.5%) is under 30 years old, 194.36 thousand - from 30 to 50 years old, 24 thousand - over 50 years old.

The majority of trips were made in Tashkent - 58%, Samarkand - 8.3%, Fergana - 7.3%, Bukhara provinces - 6%.

Passengers are mainly carried on GM Nexia (21.3%), Cobalt (19.7%), Lacetti (16.4%) and Spark (13.2%). 1062 drivers provide taxi services by Epica, 1188 by BYD, 1007 by Captiva, 833 by Monza.

Year-to-date, more than 166 million trips were made through aggregators (731.3 thousand trips per day, almost 22 million trips per month). If 18.3 million trips were registered as of March 1, then their number has increased by 9 times to date.

576.1 thousand people who previously worked illegally in the passenger transportation sector are now officially registered as self-employed. More than 361 thousand of them provide services through aggregators, which is 2 times more than according to March data.

Fiscalization of payments allows obtaining information on how the income of self-employed drivers is distributed:

  • 125.6 thousand of them earned up to 1 million soums during this time;

  • 104 thousand — from 1 million to 5 million soums;

  • 45.3 thousand — from 5 million to 10 million soums;

  • 78 thousand — from 10 to 50 million soums;

  • 7.6 thousand — from 50 to 100 million soums;

  • 171 drivers' income exceeded 100 million soums.

The Tax Committee clarified that some drivers do not regularly transport passengers, but can provide taxi services once a week, which is why their income for more than eight months could be less than 1 million soums.

“The whitening of the taxi market is a step towards creating a fairer and more transparent market, where the rights of both drivers and passengers are protected by law,” the report says.

At the end of December, the Competition Committee reported that the Yandex GO service occupies a dominant position in Uzbekistan with a share of 86.3% in the taxi hail ride services market.
