By the end of 2016 Uzbekistan Railways is expected to buy another two high-speed electric Talgo trains of a Spanish manufacturer, the Uzbek Ministry of Economy announced.
Late last year at the International Investment Forum in Tashkent the national railway company and Talgo signed a contract for the purchase of two high-speed trains. The contract value was not disclosed.
The new ecofriendly trains will operate on the railway line Tashkent-Bukhara, and the running time will reduce by two hours with operating costs down by 36%.
Currently Uzbekistan Railways is operating Talgo trains in Tashkent to Samarkand high-speed rail line seven days a week under the brand Afrosiyob.
This year the railway company completed the electrification of the Marokand to Karshi and Samarkand to Bukhara railway lines with launching high-speed passenger trains to Karshi and Bukhara, with the construction of a new rail station.
