The Royal "pomegranate juice-added" carbonated drink, produced in Afghanistan, failed to meet quality standards, the Technical Regulation Oversight Authority (formerly the Uzstandard Agency) stated.

Reportedly, the laboratory study conducted by the Authority found that the drink contained an excess amount of the dye "azorubine E122", the report says.

The labeling on the packaging of the drink failed to meet the requirements of the General Technical Regulations on Food Safety in terms of its labeling, namely its paragraphs 8, 36, 53 and 58.

In particular, the clause 36 reads that the packaging of food products containing azorubine E122 and other dyes must bear a warning label: "Contains a dye (dyes) that may have a negative effect on the activity and attention of children."

Clause 8 describes the requirements for the content of the marking, clause 53 — for the name and location of the manufacturer (producer), clause 58 — for the name and address of the importer.

The Authority noted that breach of the above rules shall be deemed a violation of the regulations on technical regulation, standardization, metrology and consumer protection.
