Elections of members of the Legislative Chamber and Senate and deputies of provincial, city and district councils are scheduled for Sunday, October 27. This decision was made by the Central Election Commission at today’s meeting.

This date is also defined in the Constitution. The election campaign will start on July 26 - three months before the elections, which will take place under the slogan "Prosperous motherland is my choice is ".

150 deputies of the Legislative Chamber, 56 members of the Senate, 65 deputies of the Jokargy Kenes of Karakalpakstan, as well as deputies of provincial, Tashkent and 208 district (city) kengashes will be elected. Thus, the active participation of about 30 thousand candidates and about 90 thousand of their authorized representatives, as well as the participation of more than 120 thousand members of election commissions as organizers and more than 70 thousand local and foreign (international) observers is expected in the election process, the CEC stated.

The elections will take place for the first time based on majoritarian-proportional (mixed) system. In this system, electoral districts will be divided into single-mandate and a single electoral district. 75 deputies of the lower house of parliament will be elected from single-mandate districts by the majoritarian system (voting for a candidate), the remaining 75 - by proportional, that is, on the basis of votes given to political parties (by party lists).

The transition to a mixed electoral system to increase the role of political parties was proposed by the president Mirziyoyev in March. Following the constitutional referendum, Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on May 8 introducing a majoritarian-proportional electoral system.

Prior to this, parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan were held under a majoritarian system, in which candidates who received the majority of votes in their constituency were considered elected.
