The banks of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have begun to refuse to accept payments from Russian companies, the transport companies PEK, Digital VED, GTL and Logita Trade said in their respective reviews. reportedly, the refusal of payments through the banks of the Central Asian countries increased by 30% in July itself, and the duration of operations increased by 15%, reaching two weeks.
Such a situation is due to stricter compliance of banks in these countries - they demand more additional documents and explanations, including information about the company, its owners, customers, sources of funds, details of transactions, said Roman Romashevsky, financial director at PEK transport firm. He clarified that the problem had axacerbated in the second quarter of 2024, even when settling in local currencies.
In one bank alone, payments for a small batch of goods worth $10,000 can easily go through, but a $50,000 transaction is refused, said Tatyana Alekseeva, CEO of Logita Trade.
"More problems are arising when payments for goods are transferred to other countries, including China, through Central Asian banks," said Anna Fomicheva, co-owner of Digital VED. Banks explained these refusals by the fact that they were now more willing to comply with the US sanctions.
