The third and final phase of airport reconstruction project has been completed at Termez International Airport, the press service of Uzbekistan Airports said.

The phase work did not restrict the operation of the airport. At the end of 2022, the airport was closed for two months.

As part of the third phase, the construction of the second taxiway RD-A and a section of the main taxiway was completed.

The width of the supporting part of each taxiway is now 23 m, and the total width is 44 m, which will allow wide-body aircraft such as Boeing 787, Boeing 777 and Airbus 330 to taxi without restrictions.

Work on the construction of an apron section for three aircraft stands and installation of lighting equipment have also been completed.

“Cement concrete was used as a material for the construction of the apron, as well as the previous runway. This is the optimal solution in the hot climate of the Surkhandarya province - the coating is stronger and more durable,” the message says.

The first and second phases of the reconstruction project began in parallel at the end of 2020 and were completed in December 2022. Then, most of the airfield complex of category 4E was built, including a new runway 3000 m long and 60 m wide, taxiways and an apron for three aircraft stands, a modern lighting system CAT-I ICAO, meteorological and radio navigation landing system.

The airport terminal was reconstructed and commissioned in 2019.

The last reconstruction of the airfield complex of Termez Airport was carried out in 1989.
