UN Secretary-General António Guterres commenced an official visit to Tashkent on Sunday. He was welcomed at the Tashkent airport by the Prime Minister Aripov and other officials, the PM’s press service said.

During the two-day visit, he will meet with the president Shavkat Mirziyoyev and other officials. 

At the negotiations it is planned to discuss issues of expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN and its institutions, global politics and regional connectivity. 

António Guterres will also visit Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. On July 4, he will address the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Astana. 

Previously, the UN head visited Central Asia in 2017.
