The Center for Strengthening Communities and Social Well-Being was set up with the help of the National Social Security Agency and the School of Social Work of Columbia University (USA). The relevant Resolution was approved by the government of Uzbekistan on June 24.
According to the Resolution, the center is supposed to become an institution that conducts research work in the field of social protection, conducts retraining and advanced training of personnel in this area, and also provides scientific and methodological support to institutions of the Social Security Agency system.
The center’s activities will be organized on the basis of curricula and programs approved by the Social Security Agency and the School of Social Work of Columbia University. Training and research will be conducted in the state language or English.
The center's main objectives shall be:
- research and development of proposals to solve problems in the field of social protection and mental health of the population;
- implementing and strengthening of the academic system in the field of social work according to international standards;
- development and implementation of programs aimed at solving problems of social protection;
- support for the implementation of a system of professional social work in Uzbekistan;
- development of scientific recommendations for organizing social services for the population.
Some of the center's professors and faculty will be hired from the Columbia University School of Social Work.
