President Mirziyoyev supported the plans of the Chinese company BYD to join the Uzbekistan’s green public transport development project. Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted the BYD Company’s CEO Wang Chuanfu on Thursday as part of a trip to Jizzakh province.
According to the presidential press service, plans include the setting up of of a joint innovative research center for personnel training, the development of technical regulations and standards for electric vehicles, as well as the production of the latest generation Blade batteries and BYD electric buses.
The day before, the first electric car rolled off the assembly line of the BYD Uzbekistan Factory joint plant for the production of hybrid and electric cars in the Jizzakh province. Currently, two models - Chazor and Song Plus Champion have been launched.
As part of the phase I of the project, 160 million US dollars were invested and 1,200 jobs were created. The company has organized high-tech production using robotic systems, including welding, painting and assembly.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to expand the model range in the near future and increase production capacity to 500 thousand per year.
The parties also discussed projects for localizing components and spare parts to reduce production costs, as well as organizing the export of cars to the markets of Central Asia and the CIS.
