President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated press and media workers on their professional holiday, which is marked in Uzbekistan on June 27.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that the opening of the information sphere and its development were priority goals in the construction of New Uzbekistan.
“It should be especially noted that in recent years, wide opportunities for freedom of speech and pluralism of opinions have opened up in the country, contributing to the further strengthening of the participation, role and place of mass media representatives in socio-political processes,” the congratulations say.
“We all know well and highly appreciate the growing influence of journalists in establishing openness and transparency in society, public control over the activities of government bodies and their officials, studying and resolving legitimate appeals from citizens,” the president’s address emphasizes.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev underscored “a significant increase in the number of topical speeches on various topics in newspapers, magazines, on television and radio channels, on social networks, thematic programs, analytical comments, discussions on problematic issues with the participation of specialists and experts.”
“Critical and analytical stories, in particular, on shortcomings in the field of construction, ecology and environmental protection, road safety, as well as in the social and economic spheres help to “wake up” some “dormant” local managers and officials and put them to work in a new way, to live by the concerns of people,” the congratulations emphasize.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted that “our caring and noble journalists, active bloggers, with their firm position and impartial word, make a worthy contribution to solving pressing life problems, increasing the effectiveness of reforms, expanding the views and worldview of compatriots.”
“All this undoubtedly indicates that our national media are already close to the level of the “fourth estate”. And yet, achieving such a lofty goal will not be easy; there are, naturally, many obstacles and difficulties along the way. However, no matter how difficult it is, we will resolutely continue our work in this direction,” the head of state assured.
While, the president emphasized that today printing and journalism are becoming not only the “fourth estate,” but also a key area comparable in importance to ensuring defense and security. “Therefore, the field needs more and more people like you, brave, sincerely loving the Motherland, devoted to the profession, selfless people,” his address says.
In this regard, the president identified the training of journalists with multifaceted professional knowledge and skills, high moral and intellectual qualities, as well as filling the information space with high-quality and competitive national content as the primary tasks.
“I consider it extremely important to cover events taking place in the world, taking into account our national interests, promptly and on the basis of in-depth analysis,” the president noted in his congratulations.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev also pointed out the increase in cases of dissemination of false and unfounded information that misleads people, which poses an urgent task to improve the media literacy of the population.
“All controversial issues and problems arising in the information space must be resolved exclusively within the framework of the law, on the basis of legal norms. I am confident that you, dear representatives of the media, will take an active part in solving such problems,” the congratulations say.
“Ensuring the legitimate interests of all workers in the sector, stimulating their dedicated work will undoubtedly continue to be the focus of our attention,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized.
