In Bekabad city, Tashkent province, a police officer was arrested in connection with the death of a man in the building of the city police department, the spokesman to the General Prosecutor's Office, Khayot Shamsutdinov.
Earlier, the provincial police department reported that a man who caused a scandal in the courthouse in Bekabad over the verdict against his brother was taken to the police department along with his other brother. At the entrance to the department building, “he reportedly faded and was taken to the hospital,” where doctors recorded the citizen’s death.
However, relatives of the deceased said that the cause of death of the 43-year-old man was beating by police officers inside the department building.
Dilshod Yusupvaliev, the brother of the deceased Dilmurod Yusupvaliev, who was with him at the police department, stated that he and his brother were beaten by about 10 police officers.
“They say that one [police officer] was taken into custody in connection with my brother’s case. I don't want just one to be arrested and the rest go unpunished and that this becomes another scapegoat game. I request that action be taken against all eight officers [involved in the incident]. I would like more attention to be paid to the chief of the Bekabad police department,” he said.
Earlier, the spokesman to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Shokhrukh Giyasov said that the department was investigating the situation together with the prosecutor's office, footages had been received, the testimony of witnesses and participants in the incident was being checked, and the necessary forensic examinations had been ordered.
