On the evening of June 23 in a flower shop in Tashkent’s Shaykhantakhur district, a 40-year-old man attacked a 21-year-old saleswoman and began to strangle her. Footage of the incident circulated on social media.
The attacker is Khurshid Akhmedov, previously convicted under Extortion charge of the Criminal Code, the Tashkent police department said in a statement.
A 21-year-old and a 22-year-old boy who were nearby tried to calm him down and prevent the conflict. However, Akhmedov attacked them too and caused them bodily harm. The footage shows the man also punching a passerby in the face who was trying to calm him down.
The investigation department of the Shaykhantakhur district police department launched a criminal case under Hooliganism associated with resistance to a representative of the government or the public performing duties to protect public order, or other citizens suppressing hooligan behavior charge of the Criminal Code, with investigation underway.
