393 road accidents were officially registered in Tashkent in the first five months, in which 29 people died and 364 were injured of varying degrees of severity, the Tashkent city police department said in a statement.
61% of all road accidents, or 240, were accidents involving pedestrians. Reportedly, the causes of 99% of road accidents are drivers’ failure to comply with traffic rules and pedestrians crossing streets in the wrong places.
The chief of the Tashkent city police department, Aziz Tashpulatov noted the need to analyze each source of accidents, develop the necessary measures based on the findings of the analysis, as well as improve outreach among drivers and pedestrians.
