Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan signed a memorandum of cooperation on the interconnectivity of energy grids. The document was adopted at the meeting of the ministers of economy and energy of the three countries in Tashkent on May 1, Interfax reported citing the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, Mikail Jabbarov.

Mikail Jabbarov said on social networks that this document would allow the three parties to cooperate in the production of "green" energy and its exports to Europe through Azerbaijan, the integration of energy grids and the effective use of renewable energy sources.

The press service of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan said that according to the document, the participants will study the possibilities of connecting energy systems by laying a high-voltage cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea.

Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy Almasadam Satgaliev underscored that the project of technical conditions for laying a deep sea cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea was previously developed.

"A business model for the development of international transmission corridors (financing, revenue streams and ownership) and the sale of green energy to EU countries will be developed as part of the terms of reference. Based on this, a draft memorandum on cooperation between the energy ministries of the three countries on interconnectivity of the energy grids of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan was developed," said Satgaliev.

According to him, the main approaches to the implementation of this project were discussed and agreed today.
