Expanding regional transport opportunities is one of the main purposes of the visit of the Kazakh government delegation to Afghanistan. At the meeting of Deputy Prime Ministers of Kazakhstan and Afghanistan, Serik Jumangarin and Abdul Ghani Baradar, the parties expressed mutual interest in developing cooperation on transport integration projects in Central and South Asia, Kazinform reported.
During the event, the Kazakh authorities expressed the wish to join in the implementation of the Trans-Afghan corridor (Termiz - Mazari Sharif - Kabul - Peshawar railway project and Herat - Kandahar - Spin-Buldak railway project).
Reportedly, the project will reduce the delivery time between the countries of the region by almost 10 times, as well as reduce the cost of transportation. It was announced that Kazakhstan is ready to participate in the project by supplying materials for railway structures, sleepers and fasteners.
The parties also discussed the possibility of resuming air service between the countries. Under the memorandum of understanding between the aviation administrations of Kazakhstan and Afghanistan, the airlines of the parties have the right to operate three passenger/cargo flights per week. The Kazakh side announced that it is ready to consider this issue after receiving applications from Afghan airlines.
