President Shavkat Mirziyoyev today received the President of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) Choue Chung-won. Warmly welcoming the guest, Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed sincere gratitude to Choue Chung-won for his personal contribution and practical steps aimed at popularization of taekwondo in Uzbekistan, especially among the youth.
It should be noted that the WTF is actively promoting the development of this sport in Uzbekistan: through various tournaments, assisting in projects for building modern infrastructure and assists Uzbekistan taekwondo team to hold training camps in South Korea.
On the initiative of the World Taekwondo Federation, the maiden WTF President's Cup for the Asian region featuring the strongest athletes of the continent will be held in Tashkent from August 11 to 13.
In recognition of the personal merits of Choue Chung-won in the popularization of Taekwondo, as well as in the development and strengthening of Uzbek-Korean partnership ties, he was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Tashkent and honorary Doctor of Science of the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek.
The counterparts also discussed the issues of enhancing bilateral cooperation, holding regular tournaments in Uzbekistan, WTF’ assistance in organizing, at the initiative of the head of state, of a Taekwondo department within the National University of Uzbekistan, and in other activities aimed at actively engaging the Uzbek youth in sports.
Choue Chung-won expressed his deep gratitude to the President Mirziyoyev for the warm welcome and support to the development of taekwondo and other sports in Uzbekistan. He stressed that the WTF is interested in implementing of new projects and programs of full-scale partnership with Uzbekistan.
