Bakhtiyor Sayfullaev has been appointed as Culture minister of Uzbekistan, replacing Mahmud Muratov, who ran the ministry since February, 2017, a source in the government said.

Bakhtiyor Sayfullaev since 2012 was the rector of the Institute of Arts and Culture named after Mannon Uygur. Prior to this since 2005 he was the first deputy minister for culture and sports.

Mahmud Muratov was appointed as director of the Alisher Navoi Academic Bolshoi Theater.

The famous singer Ozodbek Nazarbekov replaced Minhtin Khodzhimatov to become the first deputy minister.
