Russian gas supply volumes to Uzbekistan via Kazakhstan will increase almost 3 times in 2024 to the last year, the TASS said with reference to the Kazakh Ministry of Energy.
Reportedly, as part of the inked agreement on strategic cooperation between Gazprom and the government of Kazakhstan, an increase in the annual volume of Russian gas supply volume to Uzbekistan was changed from 1.28 BCM in 2023 to 3.8 BCM in 2024.
On October 7, 2023, the leaders of the three countries launched the transit of Russian natural gas via Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan through the Central Asia - Center gas pipeline.
According to the agreement between UzGasTrade and Gazprom, daily supplies will top 9 million cubic meters, or 2.8 BCM per year. Such a volume, according to Kommersant, will cost about $448 million, that is, $160 per 1,000 cubic meters of gas.
From 2026, supplies were planned to increase from 3 BCM to 11 BCM per year.
As previously reported, the Uzbek authorities vowed to modernize the main gas grid for $500 million to increase the volume of gas imports “from the north.”
The World Bank warned in February that Central Asian countries could soon face a growing imbalance in gas supply and demand.
