President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Tashkent rail cars construction and repair plant, the presidential press service said. During the visit to the plant, the president was briefed about the planned launch of a Tashkent to Khiva high-speed train service, for which Hyundai Rotem high-speed electric railcars will be purchased from South Korea.

The electric train with seven cars will accommodate 351 passengers and can reach speeds of up to 250 km/h.

In 2021, the Asian Development Bank approved $162 million loan for the electrification of 465 km of the Bukhara-Urgench-Khiva railway line. In 2022, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank entered into an agreement with Uzbekistan on a $108 million loan for the same purpose. After the launch of high-speed service, the travel time from Tashkent to Khiva will be reduced to 7 hours.
