Traffic Management Center will be created at the Tashkent city mayor’s office. A project to streamline busy intersections and streets of the capital, as well as to eliminate congestion, was presented to the president Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Tuesday.
The project has three main goals - ensuring the safety and convenience of pedestrians, prioritizing public transport, increasing capacity and reducing the number of road accidents.
At the intersection of Bobur and Furkat streets - changes have already been introduced in test mode. Safety islands for pedestrians have been created at the intersection, and traffic light control devices have been installed at pedestrian crossings. Public transport stops have been redesigned to make it easier for passengers to pick up and drop off.
The intersection also has a system of smart traffic lights, the duration of which adapts to the intensity of traffic flow.
Expectedly, such projects will result in the increasing the capacity of intersections, decrease congestion, and make public transport more efficient.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave instructions to expand these works and fully implement the “city for pedestrians” principle.
The future Traffic Management Center will get a number of powers:
- installation of over 2,000 photo and video recording systems for traffic violations;
- creation of paid parking;
- creation of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles;
- creation of a unified advertising space for the transport complex.
Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov underscored that both scientific and supervisory labour will be involved in the data center. The center will harmonize all public transport, including electric trains and high-speed trains arriving from the regions. The head of the Ministry of Transport called this project long-term.
