Former Andijan city mayor Bakhrom Khaidarov, 51, who had been serving a 10-year prison sentence since the end of 2022, has died, which was confirmed by the spokesman of the Prosecutor General's Office.

According to the department, Bakhrom Khaidarov died on the night of March 5 in a hospital for prisoners of the Department of Execution of Punishments of the Interior Ministry in Tashkent, where he was undergoing treatment.

He was diagnosed with a coronary heart disease, angina pectoris (functional class III), post-infarction cardiosclerosis, condition after coronary artery stenting, stage III hypertension, arterial hypertension-III, danger-IV (very high).

The Special Prosecutor's Office of Tashkent began pre-investigative actions.

Bakhrom Khaidarov was convicted in December 2022 on charges of theft, official forgery and legalization of proceeds from criminal activities.

Along with him, the former prosecutor of Andijan Kurbonali Askarov, the chief accountant in the centralized financial and accounting service of Andijan Said Yulchieva, the first deputy head of the Main Financial Directorate of the provincial governor’s office Farkhod Mullazhanov, the ex-head of the department of local budget revenue planning and budget formation of the main financial Department of the provincial governor’s office Shavkat Khashimov and ex-head of the regional department of public education Azizbek Mirkamilov.

Another 22 people were sentenced to prison, several people to correctional labor and restriction of freedom. In total, 45 people were involved in the case. They were accused of stealing more than 63 billion soums, or US$ 5 million.
