The public became aware that ex-officials who raped the inmates of an orphanage in Urgench were serving their sentences in a prison colony. The press service of the Tashkent City Courts explained why this decision was made.

The director of the Ezgulik Society for the Protection of Human Rights, Abdurakhmon Tashanov reported on February 16 that the former heads of the department of justice of the Khorezm province Aibek Masharipov and the Yangiaryk district department for emergency situations Anvar Kuryazov are not in prison, but in a prison colony.

While, with reference to the ruling of the court of appeal dated November 3, 2023, he reported that the convicts had their sentences cut, excluding the period of being under house arrest (the men received 2 years and 2 months, and 2 years and 9 months, respectively) .

The human rights activist described the situation as hiding information from the public. In November, the Supreme Court announced that the two men were handed the maximum sentence of 3 years in prison instead of the 1.5 years of house arrest they received in the trial court in September 2022 in Khiva.

The fact that the punishment was imposed correctly is in accordance with the old version of Entering into sexual intercourse with a person under 16 years of age charge and Entering into sexual intercourse with a person aged 16 to 18 years by providing material assets or property gain charge - confirmed the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court Ikrom Muslimov and Deputy Prosecutor General Svetlana Artikova.
