President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed amendments to the Constitutional Court Law on Friday, the press service of the Ministry of Justice said.
According to the document, judges of the Constitutional Court shall onwards be elected for a 10-year term without the right for re-election (previously they were elected for 5 years, then possibly for 10 years during the next election).
The Constitutional Court can now also give an opinion on the conformity of proposal submitted to a constitutional referendum. The court shall make a relevant decision on these issues no later than 15 days from the date of receipt of the relevant documents.
When passing the amendments, senators noted that thanks to the amendments, “the unconditional supremacy of the Constitution and laws of Uzbekistan and their uniform application will be achieved.”
