Project of the 350-km long Tashkent to Samarkand toll road has been drafted. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) provided $350,000 in grant funds for the development of the initial feasibility study of the project by the Austrian ILF Consulting Engineers Austria GmbH. This was reported by the Samarkand province highway department.
Following the tender, Turkey's "Proyapı Mühendislik ve Müşavirlik A.Ş." (PROYAPI) was awarded the contract worth 1 million euros.
To date, a preliminary report and a draft pre-investment study have been submitted by the consultant and accepted by the working group.
According to the project, a 305-km-long 6-lane highway that meets international standards will be built based on the requirements for a Highway. It is also planned to build new bridges and overpasses over all junctions and structures, and to install an intelligent transport system.
The construction of the "Tashkent-Samarkand" toll highway will unload traffic flow. The carrying capacity of the road surface is 13 tons according to international standards, and the service life of the highway is 25 years.
