The Ministry of Energy announced the winner of the tender for a 200 MW wind power plant and a 100 MW per hour electricity storage system in the Karauzyak and Beruni districts of Karakalpakstan on Wednesday.
This project is being implemented with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development as part of the program for the development and provision of consulting services for a 200 MW wind power plant project (phase 2 of the EBRD).
Only two companies sent bids for this project. Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power proposed a price of 4.09 cents per kWh for electricity to be produced at the wind farm and stored in an electricity storage system, and the Emirates Masdar - 4.99 cents. For comparison, ACWA Power also won the tender for the construction of the first wind power plant in Uzbekistan with an offer of 2.5695 cents per kWh.
The tender committee selected ACWA Power as the provisional winner and Masdar as the reserve winner. The commission will review the tender documentation and approve it with the participation of EBRD consultants in the coming days.
The investor will design, finance and operate the plant.
ACWA Power is also building one of the largest wind farms in the world with a total capacity of 1,500 MW in Karakalpakstan. But when signing the contract, the parties did not announce the prices at which the state would be guaranteed to buy electricity.
